Dress Code

Special Dress for Christmas/Easter

At Carden Country School, we believe school is a child’s business.  Children are therefore required to wear clothing appropriate to school and business.  Experience has shown that students tend to behave in school in accordance with their dress. The goals of the dress code are:

  • To foster a respectful, business-like attitude that encourages learning.
  • To eliminate distractions caused by clothing.
  • To ensure modesty.

Carden Country School has selected Lands’End to be the supplier of the uniform dress code.  The quality of Lands’ End merchandise is exceptional, long wearing, and guaranteed.  Carden Country School’s logo is available for embroidery on selected items.  Lands’End for School catalogs and current uniform guidelines are available in the office.  Uniforms may be purchased by calling 1-800-469-2222 or online at www.landsend.com/school. The preferred school number for Carden Country School is 9000-4524-6.

Uniform Guidelines

  • The uniform includes most items from the Lands’End for School catalog.  There are some color restrictions.  The Lands’ End website will limit color choices to those allowed.  Sweatshirts are the only permissible “Spiritwear”, provided they include the embroidered Carden crest.  The following items are not in keeping with our business-like atmosphere:  Cargo, 5 Pocket and Flare styled pants, shorts or skirts; T-shirts; and gym clothes.
  • An embroidered evergreen sweater or vest, navy bottoms, a white shirt, and solid colored socks or tights are required dress at designated events.  Please include these items in your order.

In addition:

  • Closed-toe shoes are required for safety and practical school wear. Shoes must be worn properly, i.e. if the shoes have laces, the laces must be worn and tied.  High heels are not practical.
  • Socks or tights must be worn at all times, and must be solid colored for assemblies.
  • Bike shorts, tights, or leggings should be worn under skirts & dresses to ensure modesty.
  • Each student is required to have a pair of hard-soled slippers for indoor wear only.
  • Hairstyles and accessories must be clean and give a modest, tidy, well-groomed appearance. Extreme and faddish hairstyles are not in keeping with a business-like atmosphere and are not acceptable. Jewelry and other accessories should be practical for school play and should not be a distraction. Any accessory (including watches) that becomes a distraction will be held until the end of the day.
  • Students must dress appropriately for the weather, as they will be required to be outside up to 20 minutes daily.

Uniform Recycling:

We have a uniform recycling program to help parents with acquiring and disposing of uniform clothing.  Since our uniforms are of very high quality, they often still have lots of wear left when a student outgrows them.   When you have washed your child’s outgrown but still usable uniforms, please place them in the uniform recycling bin on the front porch.  If you need a uniform item, check our inventory of recycled uniforms here: Carden Uniform Inventory.   Recycled items are $5 each.  The proceeds of this program go to fund financial aid and scholarship grants.
