We are strong proponents of teaching cursive beginning the second semester of 1st grade and continuing through 8th grade at Carden Country School.
National Handwriting Day falls on January 23rd, the birthday of the American Revolutionary leader and first signor of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
While opponents of cursive argue it is no longer relevant, research supports the many reasons to teach and practice handwriting.
Studies have shown that handwriting skills benefit cognitive development and motor skills, and can lead to improved writing skills and reading comprehension
