Developing Character, Independence and Self-reliance

We believe that educating our children to become thoughtful, responsible world citizens is as important as teaching them reading, writing and mathematics. Our mission and goal is to provide a faith-based education that will nurture students to become spiritually minded, academically versed, socially balanced and equipped to make a positive impact in their community. We strive to teach students good manners, service and values such as courtesy, respect, responsibility and love by incorporating these behaviors into our everyday actions at school.

A Purposeful, Christ-Centered Environment

Our goal is to inspire our students to love God and empower them to be leading world citizens. We are an inter-denominational Christian community that does not teach doctrine or theology in the classroom. However, we do use the Bible as our foundation for character building. We hope that all of our students learn to be internally motivated and respect the property, feelings and ideas of those around them. We teach these ideas through faith-based object lessons, and our students are encouraged to embody the “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” described in Galatians 5:22-23.

Fostering a Tradition of Service

Carden students spend time in the community, serving and offering gifts.  Each year we visit a local skilled care facility to offer Thanksgiving and Easter programs of music, poetry and Scripture to lift the spirits and warm the hearts of the residents.  In addition, upper-grade students and teachers volunteer at Helpline House, a local, community-funded, non-profit social services agency, with food and clothing banks, as well as a range of social service options.  We sponsor a child in the Dominican Republic, distribute Valentines to local police, firefighters, librarians and other service providers, and have sponsored fundraising activities for the American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund and others.

Standards for Living and Learning

From day one, we teach students our ‘Standards for Living and Learning.’ These statements express our core values and provide a clear set of exceptions for how we aspire to carry ourselves and interact with each other and our community. These aren’t merely words we make students memorize, we live these standards every day. We talk about them, we act them out, we role-play with them, and it becomes part of who we are.

  1. We agree to respect the property, feelings and ideas of others.
  2. We agree to think before we speak, and to sort our thoughts and put into words only that which will contribute something positive to those around us.
  3. We agree that orderly thinking is necessary for success, and that to be orderly on the inside, one must also be orderly on the outside.
  4. We agree that courtesy will always rule our actions.
  5. We agree that improvement is NOT optional.
  6. We agree that caring for someone includes holding them to their highest level of performance and behavior until they have achieved the level of self-discipline necessary to hold themselves there.
  7. We agree to always be appreciative of and loyal to our family.
